A Shameless Threadless Advertisement.

The Threadless tees are damn nice lah! Damn cool original designs some more. Why can't we have better tee shirt companies here that print to order stuff like these? And i'm not talking about toopid "bring your own picture and i iron on for your school orientation camp" type of tee shirt kiosks u find at the malls and such. I'm talking good grade 100% cotton tees that you can actually breathe in, and A+ designs that screams 'OMFG that shirt is so coooool.'

Go check it out! Click on the link on the left (under 'worthy clicks'). You'll prob find something you like. Hint: As with other things, shipping is cheaper the more you buy but only when you SHARE the order with other people (shipping does get cheaper for one person, but it makes no diff cos it still adds to your individual cost. Shipping is never free). So get the gang together before buying it, then divide shipping among everyone equally. You'll suffer less.

Sure, this is common expected behavior from homophobes. And you all know I am very liberal when it comes to gay rights and religion. But I've re-read the passage, and the arguments presented by yawningbread.org in the article 'Indiana billboard vandalised' seem forced at best. I mean, it's one thing to argue "would Jesus discriminate?", which i wholly support, than to attempt a precise interpretation of the bible, specifically Matthew 8:5-13 as evidence of gay couple affirmation. Just because the gospel of Luke talks about the marginalized and Jesus challenging established temple/church rules, it does not necessarily follow that therefore the centurian and his servant were getting it on in the bedroom.

As CS says "Why would a centurion be so concerned about his servant? Why would a centurion say to a Jewish teacher that he is undeserving of that teacher coming into his house? Unless of course one begins to wonder if the servant and the centurion had a special relationship which was common in Roman times (i.e. a homosexual relationship). If that is the case then the Jewish elders were using his helpfulness to the community as a justification for why he deserved their help, despite his "unacceptable" relationship with his servant. "

Is that the only possibility? Sure, it's possible, but the logic is far-fetched. In this case, the generality and vagueness of the church's interpretation, that is the Centurian thinks himself unworthy in the presence of this miracle man, Jesus, understanding/believing in his higher authority (as the Centurian clearly states in the chapter), is 100 times more believable.

This one's for Little Miss H'awesome.

"Look into my eyes, look into my eyes, the eyes, the eyes, not around the eyes, don't look around my eyes, look into my eyes, you're under. I have not been taking your underwear home, putting it on in my bedroom and then parading up and down in front of the mirror going (running his hands over his body) 'Oh, oh, oh, oh'. Three, two, one... You're back in the room."

Does anyone else think Alex Tan Tuan Loy deserves a finger up his arse?

I don't know why I read the forum anymore. It just reminds me how tooopid some people are. And it is just so unbearable. So, so unbearable. His letter was in response to Janadas Devans' article on "Can mum, mum and kids make a family" - ST, July 7. The article basically brings up the "myth" of the "good" traditional family, gives examples of how so-called deviant families can be as "good" for family life, or in fact be better than traditional family forms. He uses statistics to show abuse rates, break up of traditional family forms, etc.

And Mr Alex TTL just didn't get it. Granted, he brings up some reasonable "logical extreme" arguments, but for fucks' sake, don't you know that many good arguments are much more subtle and sophisticated than that?? (no of course not, why am I even asking you such a difficult question). Taking things "to a logical extreme" without proper thought of the content and aim of the piece is an act of absolute moronism. After ranting and raving through Devan's poor logical extremes, he gives absolutely NO reason why we should favour a traditional family form over others.

So, Mr Alex TTL, the logical extreme of your letter is: "The traditional family based system is acceptable because i think so. No need to prove. It just is. No need demographics, no need studies. I think therefore it is. So believe me. I am right. Devan is wrong. Gays are wrong. Because i said so."

CONGRATULATIONS. You have won the not-so-coveted Moron Award®. Let's through out demographics, studies, statistics, and LOGICAL THINKING altogether. Let's not question "acceptibility", let's just accept it as is BECAUSE you said so. BRILLIANT. It makes me want to be a moron too. How inspiring. CCB!

-The Answer-
I believe you are the answer
to every tear I've cried
I believe that you are with me
My rising and my light
Give me strength when I am weary
Give me hope when I can't see
Through the crosses I must carry
Lord, bind my heart to Thee
That when all my days are over
And all my chores are done
I may see Your risen glory
Forever where You are.

My words paraphrased in the guise of a direct quotation, and enshrined in the print of local media. KNN! Since when am I 29???? And how did I come to serve in the executive committee for 5 Yrs in a 1 yr-term term of office??? Siao!

Scary thing is the next day my friend from ISD (although i'm not supposed to know he's from ISD cos if you ask he'll tell you he's doing marketing or something, but everyone knows cos we all went for interviews and stuff. Duh!) smses me to tell me:

hey just wanted to say 'good for you' for your comments on CSS.
It was an interesting article.

What the heck is 'good for you' !??! ARRRRRRrrrrunawayrunaway!

A Malay Wedding

It was quite an experience. I've not been to a malay wedding before, although i've seen many under void decks in my estate and all over Singapore. It was an interesting set-up, especially the eating. It's a good thing I'm used to eating with my hands (although they provided utensils) having a Peranakan mum. Washing my hands at the table via tea pot (some guy comes up to you with a plastic tea pot with water and pours it onto your hand - water drains to a separate recepticle placed below your hand) was definitely an experience. The bryani was guuuuuud. Think it was best service i've ever had, restaurants included. Apart from two of the caterer's helpers, the bride and groom's family helped out with too! Nothing beats "relative" hospitality.

It was quite interesting to see Bryan Turner snapping away furiously with his camera and musing about the cultural specificities of a typical malay wedding... at first I thought it was quite funny, a typical white man taking photos like a tourist. But then i realised... dammit, i should have brought my camera, especially since my knowledge of the workings of such a wedding is limited. Oh well... we learn new things everyday.

You Are Loved (Don't Give Up)

Don't give up
It's just the weight of the world
When your heart's heavy
I will lift it for you
Don't give up
Because you want to be heard
If silence keeps you
I will break it for you

Everybody wants to be understood
Well I can hear you
Everybody wants to be loved
Don't give up
Because you are loved

Don't give up
It's just the hurt that you hide
When you're lost inside
I'll be there to find you
Don't give up
Because you want to burn bright
If darkness blinds you
I will shine to guide you

Everybody wants to be understood
Well I can hear you
Everybody needs to be loved
Don't give up
Because...you are loved

Don't give up
It's just the weight of the world
Don't give up
Everyone needs to be loved
You are loved
