People of Singapore

Found this photo when i looked up "people of singapore" on Googleimages. F*kin hilarious right?? hahah almost looks POSED. Must say the photographer had a brilliant eye for the moment. Slacker sian singaporeans of diff races on their super efficient MRT. Throw in a sikh looking up to the sky pondering his minority status for good measure.

Was talking to Ashley about some Israeli friends of his who were born in Australia but left to join the Israeli army. Questionable Israeli foreign policy aside, I found that rather amazing. And i realise that the one thing Singaporeans just wish to siam is military service. If a Aussie kid with a Singaporean PR said 'i wanna go back and serve NS' most singaporeans would respond WTF?? Are you mentally ill?? Granted there are many other ways to display and experience singaporean-ness, but why is NS something that we do not accept as an acceptible part of our identity?

D.Soon did his dissertation on singaporean migrants in Perth and found that (1) most left singapore due to and hence were willing to severe all political ties with singapore, and (2) they keep their singaporeanness alive with regards to food, but its funny that (3) they live in an enclave of singaporeans but DO NOT wish to associated with them (c0s singaporeans are one thing or another ie rude, etc).

I think we're a bunch of ironic paradoxical mixed up freaks. NICE!!!

Woot a Cow.

Pretty much nothing out of the ordinary has happened of late. I like that phrase... "pretty much nothing". If it's much then it can't be nothing, and if it's nothing then there is a lack of something, and if there's no something then there's nothing to be pretty, is there?

but i digress. Met up as the trio of SharrodKenShane (sounds like "sharrod and shane" only with a small choke in between when mis-gulping water) for the last time in a long time... Sharrod goes back to becoming a doctor this week. Think he will miss us desperately cos he kind of got moody at the end of the night. Poor bastard. Once Kenneth leaves there will be more beer pubbing than partying for me... unless of course, Rel, debbs and prem decide to assimilate me into their party animal culture! See how lah.

Arsenal drew with Aston Villa. Expected it, so no biggy. Man U whooped Fulham's ass though. Come on anti-man u fans, you HAVE to admit that was f*cking great to watch.

Today Rel asked me: "how you going?" And i realised that there were AT LEAST three responses to that. (1) by bus or MRT; (2) very well, thank you very much (if you're aussie); and (3) yes I am going... and you? (poor english - as as result of no punctuation - for "Have you decided? Are you going?")

What a wonderfully pluralistic world we live in! wooot!

Every moment comes to us pregnant with a command from God,
only to pass on and plunge into eternity,
there to remain forever what we have made of it.

Wazzap boys??

Sharrod and Kenneth... It's great to hang out with buggers... things are a lot less complicated, no worries, no hassles, no politics. Just pure unadulerated CRAP. Unless you count preman and sharrod having a go at each other about the Lebanon war. Sweeeeeeet Jesus. Can you belief Sharrod is going to be doctor, and Kenneth a pilot?? Hahahha WTF. If i fulfill my dream and finally get my hands on that goddamn doctorate then we'll be the 3 weirdest, most highly qualified buggers around. Plus Preman who's already a lecturer at Republic Poly. What is the world coming too? Dunno to be happy for the kids i teach or not. Muawahahahhaha.

The 4 things we really do at conferences...

Lesson #1: Be a Kaypoh then laugh at other people's ideas.
-

... before using those ideas to make yourself sound smarter.
-

Lesson #2: Learn how to be un-Singaporean and eat at roadside stalls - diaorrhea-free and damn full up, all for just S$1.
*Hint*: Go with old(er) people so the auntie thinks you're a young boyboy or gurgur and gives you more stuff for free.
-

Lesson #3: take photos with the local girls...
-

... or gang up with an aussie and go wild with a bunch of titty-looking things. Think the second one more fun. Seriously.
-

Lesson #4: Take a photo and get intimate with Prof. Kwok Kian Woon...
-

... and have a casual smoke afterwards.

Any questions?? *smirk*

you put me here for a reason
you have a mission for me
you knew my name and you called it
long before i learned to breathe

Sometimes i feel disappointed
by the way i spend my time
How can i further your kingdom
when i'm so wrapped up in mine?

in the blink of an eye that is when
i'll be closer to You than i've ever been
time will fly but until then
i'll embrace every moment that i'm given
there's a reason that i'm alive
for a blink of an eye

and though i'm living the good life
can my life be something great?
i have to answer the question before its too late...

if i give the very best of me that becomes my legacy...
so tell me what am I waiting for?

Hanoi

It was bloody hot lah that's all i can say. 38 fkin degrees... the minute I stepped out of the hotel I was covered in a thin layer of perspiration. But still, i wouldn't trade the experience for anything. I loved the paranoia that accompanied the constant mysterious and "coincidental" appearance of vietnamese police wherever we walked and stopped to shop. Lisa the avid shopper could bargain till the vietnamese guy wanted to cry. All so we could save 50 Sing cents (think Russell Peters).

The food was really very good... but only if you ate at the roadside stalls... they're not as dirty as they smell... in fact, i realised that the funky smell is actually from one of their sauces. And trust me, it tastes GREAT. And it cost me like S$1. Their more expensive dishes include snake, beef testacles, and noodles with... materials??? WTH.

Another good thing? Beer was dirt cheap there. My colleagues and I just had loads of fun relaxing after a hard days' work at the ASEAN conference we presented at. The local Bir Han oi was so cheap DanSoon and I bought 10 bottles with a bottle opener for just 80,000 dong (ie. S$8)! Even Yongjia's wife drinks more than me. Check out the picture with Sasa and her... that's her 5th glass. Lisa's just pretending, she only drank one glass. She posed with the same glass all night. Eh what you think this Balaclava or what?? Wuse! :P nyuknyuknyuk

After missing her flight, the silly darlin finally arrived in Hanoi and we immediately... well, ALMOST immediately - hit the streets shopping again with Sasa. I just loved all the shops! But after 4 hours of intense walking and shopping... well, you know how much I so do NOT like shopping. *groan* my poor feet and back!

On with the sight-seeing! To see Ho Chi Minh's body... they worship him like a God man... of course I couldn't take photos unless you want me to appear on the news in a profile shot with a numbered tag held in front of me...

So after an interesting conference experience, the marketing, and the dead bodies... it was all but a fleeting memory.

...it's as empty as an argument
i'm lookin for a bridge i can't burn down...

people pass
me by
comments and sarcasm
judgment and assumptions.
talk and chatter -
all meaningless.
they say
time heals and drugs kill
i say
-one bowl is great!-
but
time feeds
the mind too much.

After 6 years of searching on the net and in shops all over Singapore, i've finally got my hands on a real-to-goodness replica of The Buddy Christ right out of that brilliant show Dogma.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

It's brilliant! Gonna put my hippie Jesus on my table at home. What if i brought it to church and asked Father to bless it?... i wonder.
